Both male and female are mostly green, and only the adult male has a red forehead and a ring of red feathers around its eyes. The tail is tipped with black, and the rump is light green. The under wing on the male is black, and the female's under wing is greenish or brownish black. Both genders have a red beak and grey feet. The lovebird lives in southern Eritrea to south western Ethiopia. They normally live in high plains or mountainous regions. It feeds on sunflowers, seeds, corn, apples, and mission figs. The bird nests in a tree cavity. The eggs are white, and there are usually three to four eggs in a clutch. The female incubates the eggs for 23 days. The chicks fledge from the nest about 45 days after hatching.
