litter naming - generations
Game Introduction
Rule 12) Warrior cats words.... maybe? I would! highly prefer no Twolegkits... :pain: like... yyyyes its... theres nothing wrong with it strictly.. i just.... nnnno.......... no please........... let's not name our children Dirtkit either considering the warrior cat meaning :sob: Thunderpath, Greenleaf, Newleaf, like... i guess? i don't... it feels wrong................... but i mean... i guess..... Rule 13) Starkit and Moonkit and other Space names Moonkit is fine I don't know why warrior cats said it wasn't allowed.. like //i do// but I think it's a silly reason! Starkit I honestly, truly have no quarrel with as long as they never become leader. -- ive received suggestions about switching the prefix/suffix if they become leader, and i don't really /personally/ love it, sssorry.............. -- Starry or other Star- words are fine. Planets: I think planets are fine, but just to be fun ONLY the planets easily visible with the naked eye! i think iirc that's (in no order): (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) Constellations / Star names i really honestly dont care that much about just.. again constellations/stars we can see with our eyeballs :skull: and pref. no human constellations cause that's weird Rule 14) Kit, Kitten, Paw, Pawpaw no, sorry! i see what you're trying to do and i am very much saying no! Rule 15) Numbers 'One' is allowed, to like denote the fact they only have one spot on their fur or something. You can thank Onewhisker you get this much! 'Zero' 'Two' 'Three' .. etc. are not. thank you! Rule 16) Some words just... aren't names! I'm sorry! I, A, Am, We, etc. just.. those don't.. those aren't.. those aren't names. Rule 17) I know you really want that really funny and silly name but it doesn't... mean anything to the kit. Names should, at least in SOME fashion, actually relate to the kit! They shouldn't just be random pretty words that mean nothing.. and PLEASE. be so fr with me and the litter mods like don't choose some random word that clearly has 0 meaning and make an elaborate inrp backstory on how you chose that name.... just.. no it's not.. no. Characteristickit is not a name! Presencekit means nothing to the actual child! Do NOT say "well NPC just thought the child had such a presence they just simply had to name the kit Presencekit" LIKE STOP PLEASE we all know you made that up on the spot !!!!!!!!! Rule 18) Don't make them super long, we have a bio storage character limit I am BEGGING I am so sad to say, Supercalifragilisticexpialidociouskit isn't valid! I'm not gonna set a super hard limit or anything but just be like! reasonable! Rule 19) Just because someone got away with the name before doesn't mean it's chill now! We don't always see kits, and sometimes rules develop as issues become problems! RESPECT the litter mods or mods if they say a prefix isn't okay! Rule 20) concerning loner and kittypet names: i don't care! you can do human names or name them 'water' i don't care!!!!! i'm sorry! yes kittypet names can be really silly and dorky like Dr. Fluff,, if its long like some shelters and owners can name cats really long silly names and thats fine!! just have a nickname for storage and common use. thank you!!!!!! Rule 21) Geography Yes, Generations takes place in a fantasy Northern area, but I don't really care for being strict with animals and plant names. Go ahead and have that Cactuskit even though there's 0 shot the cats have ever seen one before. I don't really mind enough to make a full blanket rule. If that accuracy is important to you, valid! If not, also valid! Rule 22) plural names rockskit, boulderskit, foxeskit, etc. etc. are not valid no Rule 23) I AM. NOT SUPER STRICT. i know i just made a twenty three point long list but i dont! care! i dont care about names! i really don't care enough to argue about the like... reason you think nightkit should be valid, but you're not sure.... just, if you think it's valid and you're fairly certain you're following the rules here.. go for it!! if you REALLY want to check ask oorp and see what they think and if they're iffy ask a litter mod.. just! be reasonable and use common sense to the best of your abilities, if it's not a name that has any remote chance of showing up in the books, don't use it! that's pretty much the entirety of this list... just be nice to me and the litter mods and the fictional baby kittens that don't deserve horrendous names!!! thank you and have a wonderful day and please please do not be like baneofmyexistencekit's parent
How To Play
hello guys i receive way too many questions on this and would like to never again receive a question on this so! here is a complete guide. any questions beyond this on what's valid and not should go to oorp! thank you first and foremost i do not care that much we're not super strict on prefixes but there are some! rules to follow yes warning this entire project should be read in a silly and lighthearted tone Rule 1) DON'T NAME THE KITS SOMETHING A PARENT WOULDN'T NAME THEIR CHILD!! this rule basically feeds into every other rule Rule 2) Names should not be negative! Look at poor little Baneofmyexistencekit! They didn't deserve that name! They're just a baby! If it has a negative connotation, it's out! i.e. Monsterkit, Nightmarekit, Screamkit, Frailkit, Weakkit, Fragilekit, Brokenkit, etc. * for halloween litters you can always do silly things like batkit, nightkit, etc. etc. instead !! HOWEVER. please note some animals, for example, can be used as insults. ratkit, wormkit, maggotkit, foxkit are all entirely valid! Don't... name them these because they work as insults though! Rule 3) Genuses.. Species.. Scientific names are politely a nope! I don't refer to dogs as canis lupus familiaris and neither will your wild forest cat!! If the plant (most animals have common names..) has no common name and is genuinely pretty much solely referred to by its scientific name, go ahead I guess.............. but it'd still have to be a singular word Rule 4) Spaces and Hyphens are not allowed! If it's two words, or hyphenated you cannot just pretend it's one word or remove the hyphen... that doesn't.. that's not how words work guys.... Rule 5) Names shouldn't be in reference to 13+ material Rule 6) Unknown words do not become 'known' if they are apart of known words. i.e. Dragonkit is not valid just because Dragonflykit is. That would also imply like... Orakit is valid because Orangekit is. Rule 7) Names should not relate to disabilities! I understand it happens in the books, but the books have had multiple accounts of ableist writing! So we don't really take the books as an ultimate guide to being a great person! Names represent your most defining qualities, your best qualities, what's special about /you/ .... so when you're named after your disability? Yikes implications!! i.e. Scarkit, Twitchkit, Spasmkit, Stutterkit, Rule 7.5) Some names are okay in SOME contexts, not in others! Some names are totally fine in some contexts, but if they have a disability that relates to said name, it ISN'T. i.e. Burntkit is fine in reference to a smoke-like pelt pattern, but is horrible in reference to burn scars or tragedy! other examples: Littlekit, Quietkit, Halfkit, Splitkit Rule 8) Words that have a very very common meaning that wouldn't be known, but have a like very lesser known meaning that would be known are not allowed! Sometimes people want to 'cheat' the litter rules by naming a kit a word that definitely would not be valid but they pull out this alternate meaning of the word that is never used at all in any context that would possibly be valid..... and that's not. You can't have Gaykit just because Gay also means "Happy". We all know that's not why that kit is named that. NOW. Some words have lesser known meanings that don't have a great synonym. For example, 'Nymph' as in a reference to young grasshoppers is moreso fine to me because young grasshoppers don't.. have another name. 'Delta' is apart of a river that doesn't have another name, etc. etc. These are all fine. (Also words with equally common meanings are allowed! i.e. Springkit and Fallkit! Yes they're seasons but they also have very obviously allowed alternate meanings!) Rule 9) Sexualities, gendered words, etc. are not allowed. Pronouns, Sexualities, Genders, etc. etc. are not allowed because these force those specific meanings onto the cat itself... besides you wouldn't name your child 'she' so let's not name kittens that either!! Rule 10) You CAN name Clan kits names not following the Clan naming system Clan naming system does unfortunately have a few problems and concerns in connection with that whole 'appropriation of indigenous cultures' that the books really really love doing! Generally the consensus (from what I see! let me know your thoughts!) from the wc community is that Clan names aren't banned but also shouldn't be forced upon anybody who's uncomfortable, so we won't be doing that either! (Same policy when loners/kps are joining Clans.) Rule 11) Humans words/objects- no! General rule is that if a caveman who spoke English somehow would not know this word because the physical object/concept the word represented fundamentally did not exist back then.... it's not allowed!! Note that humans have specific names for things that the cats really wouldn't say? We give our dogs specific breed names like Chihuahua but really the cats would just say dog... so Chihuahuakit would not be allowed. Summer/Winter are not valid.
