Meeting the Scratch Team!
Game Introduction
Welcome to a project where I talk about my experience of meeting some Scratch team members in the MIT media lab! Click to move through slides. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments! (The K11 shirt was drawn with fabric markers) =============================================== The most memorable part of my month-long experience at Boston was meeting a few Scratch team members. Our CompSci class visited the media lab during an MIT tour. My friend Gabe and I decided to stop by the Scratch lab, where we met @thisandagain. I thank him for taking time out of his busy schedule to give us a tour around the lab - it inspired me to make another visit the following week. One week later: Moments after walking into the lab on July 19th, I was warmly greeted by @Ceebee, along with @scmb1, then later by @Dietbacon. Before I go any further, I'd like to thank Mark (@Dietbacon) for arranging this opportunity for me to meet the Scratch team members in the MIT media lab. I was in awe to see those who I aspire to become present in the lab. Walking around the lab, I met @designerd, @technoboy10, @champ99, @natalie, @thisandagain, @ericr, @speakvisually, and last but not least, Mitchel Resnick (@mres). My experience peaked at the point when Mitchel and I talked about our experiences, how I feel inspired by Mitchel the same way he was inspired by Seymour Papert. I was absolutely speechless. Honored to meet someone who continues to stay creative and passionate from kindergarten until the stars vanish, inspiring countless people like me. I'm definitely going to read Mitchel's book that he bestowed to me, Lifelong Kindergarten, on my flight to China tomorrow. I would write a whole essay to account each Scratch team member's unique, inspiring personality and journey, but that deserves to be written in a blog. In retrospect, meeting the Scratch Team and seeing the projects that are in progress in the media lab were two remarkably humbling experiences that gave me more confidence to strive for opportunities beyond the limits of just my home town. It was truly a special day that I will deeply remember - a day that ignited a spark of inspiration for me that will drive my passion for designing and programming further than how high the bar was set before. The last photo is our CompSci class presenting what we've learned after one month in the Oxbridge Academic Program. Thanks for reading! =============================================== If you're wondering what program I attended, it's the Oxbridge Academic Program, a summer program for students to live in the most prestigious universities around the world for a college experience and an opportunity for academic and social growth.
