➵ “heartless”
Game Introduction

I usually add new parts to entries on the same project, but since this was also a painting process, I wanted it to be separate! Essentially, the story behind this piece is that when Josephine (the version of Valentine Demon I am entering for) unlocks her magic for the first time, she becomes a completely different person (which scares the ever-loving crap out of poor Logan, as you can imagine) with no thought for well-being. That state is meant to be the “true nature” behind magic, which is why it was removed from their society in the first place. Also, yep, canonically, Jo’s voice sounds a bit like Luna’s from Final Fantasy XV :) // original entry: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/432797140/ // process ➵ initial sketch: this is where I lay out where everything will go, or my basic ideas! I use a rather thick pen for this. as you can see, I have some references for the character off to the side. ➵ detailed sketch: this is where I refine details! there’s not much else to it. ➵ outlines: I loosely define the lines of important places with a thinner pen. it’s kind of like lineart, but it doesn’t need to be very precise. ➵ colour blocking: I then block in the outline with a base colour. Valentine Demon’s base colour is white, so I used it to block in this time around. I also changed the background so it would be easier to see. ➵ colouring: after removing the sketch layers, I coloured in Valentine Demon’s patterns according to the design on the left! ➵ transfer: in order to continue with painting, I transferred the transparent image into MediBang. ➵ basic shading: I then applied the basic shading I had in mind with the watercolour brush and a shade of pink. I used multiple layers on multiply, and then added a plain background. ➵ smoothing: after toying with background options, I then blended out the image as if I “painted” it with the watercolour brush. to clarify, I did the entire thing manually, and it is not an option to select ^^” ➵ transfer: I then carried the image back over to Procreate! MediBang usually (for some reason) exports images with a greater vibrancy, so I altered that back down to something I was more comfortable with. ➵ lighting: here’s where I added basic lighting! I did this with varying layer modes and many shades of pink and yellow. ➵ HSB: I altered the hue, saturation, and brightness sliders to make the image brighter with less saturation. when I do realistic paintings, I always make the saturation comparatively less. I increased the brightness because the next step often reduces the brightness a lot. ➵ curves 1: here I altered the curves, which is another colour-altering option! ➵ touchups in the background: I basically just smoothed some things out ^^ ➵ curves 2: pass two of curves! ➵ gaussian blur and chromatic aberration: I alter both to give an ethereal effect to my pieces in general~! ➵ final touches: some touch ups, like whiskers! ➵ finish! // credits ➵ art: @-iinkwiinqs- ➵ design(s): @kaleido-ghost (Josephine), @-iinkwiinqs- (Logan) ➵ particle code referenced from @mallo222 // music ➵ ‘Final Fantasy XV: Oracle's Light [Chill Remix]’ by GlitchxCity // recommended ➵ my toyhouse: https://toyhou.se/-iinkwiinqs- ➵ part one of my entry: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/432797140/ ➵ previous dtae: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/409486957
