Improvement 2.0 ✌︎

Game Introduction

Please scroll below for details Most of the art I’ve made recently is just redraws of older art, very creative I know xD thought I’d share them here, as a continuation of my other project. The redraws are pretty recent, the oldest redraw is probably a month old so but still reflects my current style I’m also working on an improvement project on @geijutsu which inspired me to share this project. That will come out later, it will go more in depth into some things. I’ll try to give some tips below though. All made in procreate, using mostly regular round brushes 1. Sailor moon redraw, I didn’t color the redrawn version, I mostly focused on values. My style changed for sure on that one. 2. Redraw of some OC sketches. I improved on anatomy, with the neck and facial structure. Still struggle with hair though xD 3. Karma Akabane redraw. My style took a bit more of. A serious/dark turn, my characters look less like little children I suppose and I’ve started to use darker colors. 4. This is a redraw of the first thing I drew in procreate. I definitely improved on form, so it feels more cohesive 5. The hands/arms were a bit wonky in the original so just decided to not draw them xD I improved in contrast, and cake drawing abilities 6. Redraw of some random older art, the main different would be my facial anatomy/style and the neck. I started drawing more guys this year which helped me improve. Hair is still a mess but it’s an improvement I believe. 7. Howl redraw! I have another howl that I might redraw later on. Again, my fear of darker colors and contrast diminished, and he looks older. 8. Redraw of an OC, drawn at about the same time as Again, I started drawing more guys. 9. Random character redraw, I think I stopped worrying about style and worried more on color and form. At this point I don’t care about consistency, fundamentals are key. 10. Updated the project, added this redraw of a frame from my old webtoon I might update this project if I do any more redraws. How I improved/Tips? Improvement is more of a subconscious process, you don’t really realize you’ve improved until you’ve compared your current art with older art. Everyone has their own pace of improvement, there’s no need to force it, it can come naturally, but there are ways to speed up the process. For me, there are 2 main ways. 1. Studies, wether it be in realism or not. Though, as I improve my realistic art, my anime art also improves with it, due to the fact that I’m improving principles such as values and colors which transfer onto other styles. Drawing a lot helps too, experimenting with techniques and such. It also helps to do studies of other art and styles. In general, I’ve seen the biggest improvement in my art in the past year, and in the past year I’ve done a lot of studies. I rarely did studies before the past year, which I regret xD 2. Consuming artwork, so just looking at art. I’ve also noticed how as my art has improved over the years, my taste in art has also improved. I can spot certain techniques and styles better than before, and I can identity the elements of art that I personally enjoy. Being inspired can also help motivation. Art by me, @jeila/@geijutsu Music is chamomile tea by chance thrash Also, thank you for 7.6k! #art
