hiya! So recently, ive noticed some rants abt the ‘ cat drawing community’ and here’s my take on it <3 1. Okay so first of all I’m surprised you even have the audacity to call out 3/4 of the scratch art community?? Like, okay bro, you don’t like our cats but they make us happy. We aren’t changing that bc you’re tired of our styles?? We draw cats. And we interpret them differently. Some people draw them with big ears and big eyes, some don’t, etc. you can’t just group a bunch of people and slap a label on them. Stop telling us to limit what makes us happy!! I like drawing stylized cats, you like drawing humans. We’re both artists, so let’s just accept that we like doodling different animals. 2. “thEY arEN’T reAlIstIc eNouGh” OKAY. again, art is about interpretation. I like what’s more considered a comical approach, with wacky proportions that aren’t necessarily realistic. But no. That’s not acceptable!! You want me to stare at a cat photo and copy it exactly, or at least closely enough that you consider realistic. It isn’t your art, it’s my art. Don’t tell me what to do with it <3 also I saw a lot of dragon + human artists say this? Dragons aren’t even real, so why are you telling cat artists the ears we draw are too big- it’s hypocritical ngl 3. “I’m bored of all of these cat comics >:( they’re all the same thing!1!” As a comic creator (Calling + COTTC) i can say this isn’t true :) Comics like ToPH + CCF both feature cats, but each creator spent time creating and constructing different stories, characters, universes, etc. I don’t get how slapping a dragon on one of those makes that comic more ‘unique’ and ‘less boring’. If you appreciate art, and the time artists put into it, then you wouldn’t be so ungrateful. Artists on scratch aren’t paid. And boy are we not welcomed! But we’re here to post content we spent hours on because it makes us HAPPY. I’m not going to stop doing what i love because you decided it isn’t good enough for you. You only want dragons and humans? Then maybe scratch isn’t the best place for you, because here we have an art community of people who draw cats, dragons, humans, etc. <3
