Based on the surreal newspaper comic strip Krazy Kat by George Herriman. If it reminds you of Hobbes (from Bill Watterson's comic strip Calvin and Hobbes) you aren't far off. Bill Watterson was influenced by Krazy Kat, and Krazy Kat and Hobbes have similar proportions. With Scratch colors, the similarity is difficult to avoid.
